Thursday, May 16, 2024, Broome County Executive, Jason Garnar and Broome County Deputy Commissioner of Public Works, Chet Kupiec announced the Broome County Highway Division's 2024 roadwork schedule.

This will be the fourth year in a row for a record amount of roadwork in the county. According to the announcement from Garnar and Kupiec, this year's plan will include over 38 projects over 48.50 miles of roads that will be milled and paved in Broome County.

In addition, 35.50 miles of roadway are scheduled to be sealed. That brings the total amount of road work in Broome County this season to just over 84 miles.

During the 2023 season, 83 miles of roadway were repaired in Broome County. 72 miles of roads were fixed in 2022 and 63 miles in 2021.

Making sure we fix our roads and bridges is a top priority for Broome County. Three years ago, our Highway Division repaired a record number of miles of road; we topped that number in the last two years and for a fourth-straight year more roadways will be fixed than ever before. Garner and Kupiec remind motorists in Broome County to use caution in work zones, even when they are not active. Some routes may be modified as construction progresses.

The most effective way to keep motorists and work crews safe is to slow down in construction zones and consider giving extra time during commutes to accommodate for any detours or changes in traffic patterns.
