An environmental group is planning to discuss what might be done to continue the cleanup at a polluted Endicott manufacturing site once owned by IBM.

The Western Broome Environmental Stakeholders Coalition will hold a public meeting at the First United Methodist Church at 53 McKinley Avenue. The session is scheduled for April 9 at 6 p.m.

Hazardous solvents remain at the property, which now is owned by Huron Real Estate Associates.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has proposed monitoring of groundwater and soil vapor. Critics of the plan say it would not do enough to protect those who live and work in the area of the so-called chemical plume.

Lenny Siegel, an environmentalist from California, is to provide an assessment on the cleanup work that has occurred at the site in recent years.

Siegel also is to offer his thoughts on what additional steps should be taken to reduce the health risks to the hundreds of people who continue to work at the site for several companies.

Siegel is scheduled to appear on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program at 10:30 a.m. April 9 to discuss the IBM-Endicott cleanup efforts.
