A Binghamton man, who fled to Florida after fatally shooting another man in February in a drug deal gone bad will spend 15 years in state prison under a plea deal.

Broome County Court Judge Kevin Dooley told 20 year old Jonathan Garcia to use his time in prison to contemplate how to turn his life around.

Garcia admitted shooting Jamaal Moses on Valentine’s Day in an argument over marijuana.

The shooting happened in the area of Lake Avenue and Merrill Street.

Investigators say Moses was armed with a pellet gun but was shot to death by Garcia.

In entering his plea in June, Garcia said he did intent to harm Moses but did not intend on killing him.

Immediately following the shooting, police launched a search for Garcia that quickly focused on the Miami area, where Garcia had relatives.  He was picked up there by U-S Marshals and the Miami-Dade Police and sent back to Broome County.
