Authorities said 35-year-old Naheen Spencer of Binghamton died following the attack near Victoria's Cafe at 153 Susquehanna Street.

Investigators said Spencer was shot in the chest in the area of the business just before 4 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said Spencer died later in the day at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

A memorial with several candles and a poster was set up next to the sidewalk in front of Victoria's. Several people wrote messages remembering Spencer, who was known as "Nah."

Detectives Monday were tracking down leads in their investigation. Captain Jack Collins said they were "making some headway."

It was not clear whether Spencer knew the person who shot him. Collins said Spencer, who initially had been hospitalized in critical condition, was not interviewed by investigators before he died.

Collins said Victoria's was open at the time of the shooting. The business previously had been targeted for closing under the city's Lockdown Law because of reported violent incidents in and around the club.

People with information about the shooting may contact the Binghamton Police detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
