Police Seize Gun, Drugs Following Binghamton Standoff
Two people were arrested after Binghamton police sealed off a residential neighborhood when a man barricaded himself inside a house.
Authorities say the incident started after officers were sent to 35 Spring Forest Avenue in the First Ward around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.
Police were called to investigate a family domestic disturbance at the home. Officers determined a man had menaced another person with a handgun outside the residence.
The man who had the weapon went inside and refused to come out to talk with police.
Investigators say the police department's SWAT team was deployed and those who were in the house eventually surrendered to officers.
Police confiscated a gun and some methamphetamine after the standoff.
Detectives say 53-year-old James Mills was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He also was charged with menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Another resident of the home - 37-year-old Andrea Whalen - was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
Mills and Whalen were arraigned in Binghamton City Court Wednesday morning and ordered held at Broome County Jail.
