Several people were home Monday morning when the fire was reported at 18 Tremont Avenue on the South Side.

Police reported a working fire at the two-story house when they arrived shortly after 7:30 a.m.

The blaze was brought under control in less than ten minutes. Authorities say there were no injuries.

Fire marshal Alan Gardiner said most of the damage was confined to a first-floor bedroom in the rear of the building.

Gardiner said residents could return to the house because utilities did not have to be shut off as a result of the fire.

Police investigators were expected to conduct additional interviews in an effort to pinpoint the cause of the blaze.

Broome County property records indicate the owner of the house lives in Orange County. He could not be reached Monday afternoon to discuss the fire.
