Police: Binghamton Woman Said Rabbit Ate Check
Authorities say a Binghamton woman was arrested in a check forgery case after she told her employer her rabbit ate a check.
Investigators say 19-year-old Casey Rafferty was accused of altering a $99 check from her employer to make it read $999.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a bank teller became suspicious when Rafferty tried to cash the changed check and refused to cash it.
Rafferty then is said to have asked her employer for a new check, claiming the original had been consumed by her rabbit.
The employer became suspicious and contacted the sheriff's office.
Rafferty has been charged with felony possession of a forged instrument. She was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and released pending further court action.
