Authorities say a Pennsylvania State Trooper was shot during a traffic stop near Allentown.

State Police Troop M in Bethlehem reported via its Twitter feed that the shooting of the corporal happened on Route 33 in the area of Route 191 in Plainfield township.

According to The Morning Call of Allentown, the incident happened around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday in Northampton County.

The newspaper reported the shooting was followed by a pursuit to Easton Hospital in Wilson, where police said they took a suspect into custody.

A Pontiac parked near the hospital was said to be marked with police tape.

There was no immediate word on the conditions of the trooper or the suspect.

The hospital's website indicated the facility had been "briefly placed on lockdown" but the lockdown had since been lifted.

Although one person was reported to be in custody, police were said to be seeking a second person who had been in the vehicle.

Roads near the scene of the shooting were closed as police secured the area and started their investigation.
