Paving Underway for Binghamton Front Street Gateway
Some Binghamton residents are looking forward to using their driveways for the first time in six months after crews complete preliminary paving work for the Front Street Gateway Project.
The base layer of asphalt is being put down on Front Street between Winding Way and Prospect Street.
Charlotte Barlow, who has lived on Front Street for more than 50 years, is angry that her driveway has essentially been inaccessible since last April.
As she watched paving work on Friday afternoon, Barlow said she had called City Hall to complain about the problems caused by the reconstruction work but never heard back from anyone.
Front Street residents and business operators have been unhappy about the disruptions caused by the project. They also have been displeased by the pace of the work.
The city had expected the entire project would be completed this fall but officials now say the final phase of the work will be done next spring.
G. De Vincentis and Son Construction Company of Binghamton is the general contractor for the project.
