Parts of N.E. Pa. in Line for Broadband Upgrades

Wayne and Bradford Counties in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania may be about to become more connected.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has announced approval of ten million dollars for 19 broadband infrastructure programs through the Commonwealth Financing Authority for non-governmental entities to deploy middle and last-mile high-speed broadband infrastructure to underserved areas.

According to the Democrat’s office, $955,762 is going to Claverack Communications LLC to construct wired infrastructure for areas of Asylum, Standing Stone and Wyalusing Townships in Bradford County. $1-million is earmarked for Spectrum Northeast LLC to construct wired infrastructure for underserved areas of Damascus Township in Wayne County.

Susquehanna County was not on the Governor’s list of areas for broadband upgrades.

Wolf says nearly one million Pennsylvanians lack access to broadband internet connectivity, which has turned out to be even more critical now that more people are working and learning at home.
