Oxford Woman Arrested for Welfare Fraud

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]An Oxford woman is accused of getting thousands of dollars in welfare benefits that she shouldn’t have.

Chenango County Sheriff’s officials say 72 year old Maureen Whittaker is charged with felony welfare fraud and offering a false instrument for filing.

Authorities say Whittaker is accused of failing to report additional income her household was getting and receiving a total of $5,767.86 in assistance from July 2009 to last June.
