Fast-Growing Owego Business Adding Binghamton Location
Construction has started in Binghamton for a new facility that will be used by a Tioga County business.
Val-U Auto and Towing of Owego is planning to open a new location on the city's East Side.
The Binghamton operation will be at the corner of Bevier Street and Broad Avenue. The site, which has been vacant for several years, once was the home of H&M Tool and Machine Company.
Val-U Auto acquired the property about two years ago. Matt Karpel, who now operates the company founded by his father in 1996, said he's looking forward to opening the Binghamton location.
Karpel said the business now has about 15 locations, including operations in Syracuse, Scranton and Albany. He said the company now has 120 trucks and about 130 employees.
Pritchard Development Corporation is building an 8,000-square-foot structure at the Binghamton site. Construction work began about three weeks ago.
The city location is expected to open early next year. Karpel said he plans to hire 5 to 10 people to work at the new location.
