Oversize Rig Ties Up Downtown Binghamton Traffic

A truck hauling a long manufactured structure through Binghamton avoided the Prospect Mountain construction zone by detouring through the downtown business district.

The move on Tuesday afternoon tied up Court Street traffic for a time Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the driver maneuvered the oversize load through the downtown roundabout without causing any damage, although one officer said "it was close."

Officers directed traffic around the rig, which had stopped at Court and State streets so the driver could seek assistance.

Police ultimately directed the driver to head south on State Street and take the Vestal Parkway to Route 201 to get back to Route 17.
