Veterans Day is Tuesday, November 11th, 2025. This federal holiday is to honor all living and deceased military veterans for their service. It was originally known as Armistice Day.

What Is Operation Green Light?

Broome County honors our veterans each year through Operation Green Light. 2025 is the 5th anniversary of the county. Operation Green Light is a nationwide initiative that encourages residents and businesses to shine green lights in support of America’s veterans.

On Monday (November 3rd), Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, local veteran organizations, and community partners joined together to announce how our community can show support through Operation Green Light.

During the announcement, held at the new Timothy M. Grippen Veterans Resource Center, Garner noted that now through November 11th, Broome County residents and businesses are encouraged to show support for our veterans by lighting their homes and buildings green.

Free Green Light Pickup Locations

According to the announcement, if you need a green bulb, you can pick one up for free at the following locations during business hours:

• Broome County Office Building, 1st floor lobby, Hawley Street, Binghamton
• Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, Stuart Street, Binghamton
• Broome County Public Library, Court Street, Binghamton
• Timothy M. Grippen Veterans Resource Center, 11 Frederick Street, Binghamton
• Broome West Senior Center, Wayne Street, Endwell
• Eastern Broome Senior Center, Golden Lane, Harpursville
• Northern Broome Senor Center, Strongs Place, Whitney Point
• Chenango Bridge Senior Center, First United Methodist Church, 740 River Road
