It appears the wait is nearly over for those looking forward to seeing a movie set at Binghamton University.

The Rewrite, the work of Binghamton graduate Marc Lawrence, now is expected to be in United States theaters in time for Valentine's Day. It opened in the United Kingdom last month.

Binghamton University president Harvey Stenger says the movie should open in the U.S. in February. He's been invited to a New York City event for The Rewrite this Thursday.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Stenger said plans are in the works to have a showing of the movie on the Vestal campus on February 8. He expects Lawrence, the writer and director, to be on hand for the Binghamton University event.

Stenger hopes Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei, who star in The Rewrite, also will be able to attend the showing.

Some scenes for the movie were shot in the Binghamton area in April of last year. A sequence when Grant arrives in an upstate New York town was filmed at Greater Binghamton Airport in the town of Maine. Much of the production was staged on a Long Island campus.

Here's the trailer for The Rewrite.
