Opening Date Set for Grocery Store on Binghamton’s North Side
Residents of a Binghamton neighborhood should be able to start shopping at a long-awaited grocery store in about one month.
The Greater Good Grocery at 435 State Street on the city's North Side is expected to open during the week of December 21.
Broome County Council of Churches executive director Joseph Sellepack said hiring is underway for several positions at the new store.
The council is overseeing development and operation of the 5,000-square-foot facility. It will make fresh food available in part of Binghamton that has been without a supermarket since 1996.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Sellepack said the store will generate three full-time and eight part-time jobs.
Coolers, shelving equipment and shopping carts have been delivered to the Greater Good Grocery space in the recently-constructed Canal Plaza complex.
