One Dead in Enfield Pickup/ Garbage Truck Crash

The investigation is continuing into a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and an Ithaca garbage truck.

New York State Police say at about 8:30 a.m. January 28 the Casella Waste Management garbage truck was hit by the Dodge Ram driven by 49 year old Paul Carl of Ithaca on Mecklenburg Road in the Town of Enfield.

23 year old Ashley Hair of Ithaca, who was riding in the pickup, was killed in the crash while Carl’s 12 year old son, Jacob, sustained a minor leg injury. Carl sustained head injuries and at last report was in critical condition at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Troopers say the garbage truck was parked partially on the eastbound shoulder while the driver was collecting trash at the roadside.

Investigators say Carl failed to notice the parked garbage truck and hit it in the rear.

37 year old David Scammell of Dryden, who was operating the garbage truck was not hurt.
