Major portions of the Binghamton-Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Facilities in Vestal have been demolished as part of a major plant improvement project.

Crews have been busy for several weeks removing sections of the plant on Vestal Road.

LeChase Construction is working on the site on the south side of the Susquehanna River.

Planned work on the treatment facilities is expected to cost nearly $200 million.

Binghamton City Council had scheduled a special work session October 7 to discuss issues related to the sewage treatment plant.

Lawmakers are expected to start reviewing fourteen requests for legislation submitted by the city engineer.

The work session was scheduled to begin after council's regular business session October 7.
