New York State Electric and Gas plans to trim more trees in local neighborhoods next spring, but vows they will not take the drastic measures that drew criticism this year from residents on the West Side of Binghamton.

NYSEG says it still needs to clear limbs from around power lines.

The utility told Binghamton City Council this week that it will remove five trees and trim branches on Fayette, Leroy and Front Streets. The trees are said to be in more commercial, rather than residential areas.

Several homeowners around Riverside Drive complained last year about the severe pruning that destroyed the aesthetics of the trees that lined the street and said they were not only ugly but reduced property values.
