NYS Attorney General Warns of Not-so-Rapid Return on COVID Tests
New York State Attorney General Letitia James says some COVID-19 testing companies aren’t being honest with their turn-around times.
The Democrat has sent a warning letter to Sameday Health, which is a private lab that claims to offer expeditated coronavirus testing for a fee, to stop misrepresenting the turn-around times for those COVID-19 tests.
The Attorney General’s office is also demanding refunds for consumers who paid for expedited test results but did not receive them in the originally promised timeframe.
The warning follows two other letter James’ office sent to LabQ and Labwork for similar complaints that promised turn-around times were not met.
Some of the companies, like Sameday, would also claim free tests but would offer no charge for people with insurance but would charge for tests for those without insurance.
The Attorney General says anyone who thinks a lab or other testing facility is making misleading statements about their turnaround time for COVID-19 test results should file a complaint online with the Office of the Attorney General's Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau or call the office at 1-800-771-7755.
