
Norwich Stressed, Binghamton Not on Comptrollers School Fiscal List
New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says this year, the Southern Tier is the only region that saw a decrease in schools under fiscal stress while Central New York and the North Country saw the largest percentages of districts facing financial challenges.
Norwich City Schools in Chenango County is again listed under significant fiscal stress but Binghamton City Schools, that had been listed as susceptible last year, didn’t make the stress list.
Norwich is one of four schools categorized as in significant stress and, as with all but one of the others on the list, had been categorized as under stress at least the previous year.
C9ortland City Schools are listed as under Moderate Stress with Oxford Academy and Central school on the list of Susceptible to Fiscal Stress along with Schenevus and Marathon Central Schools.
This is the seventh year DiNapoli has released fiscal stress scores for school district outside the Big Four school districts of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers.
