No New COVID Deaths Reported in Southern Tier Counties on March 4
While Binghamton University students continue to increasingly become infected with the coronavirus, they are staying out of the hospitals in Broome County.
County health officials reported only 47 residents in the hospital with COVID-related illness as of 3 p.m. March 4.
There were no new deaths attributed to the pandemic in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware or Tioga Counties in their March 4 reports, the first time in recent memory that there were no additions to the death toll in any of the Southern Tier counties.
Broome County added 131 cases for a total of 14,803. There have been 316 deaths with the latest fatality reported in the March 3 update. Chenango County added 9 cases for a total of 2,452. There have been 63 deaths. Cortland County’s total number of coronavirus cases for the course of the pandemic stands at 3,268. There were 20 new cases reported March 4. The death toll remains at 62. Delaware County added 14 cases for a total of 1,565 and 42 deaths while Tioga County added ten new COVID cases for a total of 2,884 to-date and there have been 70 lives lost.
New York is posting an infection rate at 2.81%, the lowest since November 21.
