
Top Ten List: New York’s Hottest Custom License Plates
The people in charge of selling New York state's 212 different picture and professional license plates have released their "Top 10" list.
The state Department of Motor Vehicles has issued its new report on the best-selling custom plates for last year.
New York's license plates are manufactured by incarcerated workers at the Auburn Correctional Facility in Cayuga County.

10. The Dale Earnhardt Memorial NASCAR Plate - 316 buyers
9. The Volunteer Firefighters Plate - 359 buyers.
8. The NASCAR Fan Plate - 462 buyers.
7. The Buffalo Bills Plate - 517 buyers.
6. The U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Plate - 694 buyers.
5.The Veteran Plate - 596 buyers.
3. (Tie) The Medical Doctor Plate - 798 buyers.
3. (Tie) The New York City Regional Plate - 798 buyers.
2. The Long Island Regional Plate - 930 buyers.
And [drum roll, please]... The Number One Most Popular Custom Plate sold in New York state in 2024: The Army Veteran Plate with 1,673 buyers!
According to the DMV, New York now has plates that "cover a wide range of categories from important causes to signs of the zodiac."
In announcing the most popular plates, the DMV did not disclose how many "New York Press" plates were sold. People seeking those plates must state "that the use of a personally-owned vehicle is required to cover breaking news, to take photographs or to shoot film."
