New Yorkers can look forward to a "major reopening" of the state as Covid-19 infection trends continue to move lower.

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced that most capacity limits will be lifted on May 19. But social distancing of at least six feet will still be required at most businesses.

The capacity limits will end at places like retail stores, food service operations and offices.

Cuomo said restaurants, museums and theaters are among those covered by the move.

The governor said the outdoor food and beverage curfew in New York State will end on May 17. The indoor food and beverage curfew will be lifted on May 31.

Outdoor large stadium capacity now is capped at 20 percent. That limit will rise to 33 percent on May 19.

Cuomo said New York is working to develop a joint protocol with New Jersey and Connecticut to permit higher capacities with a testing or vaccination requirement.
