New York Ski Resorts Given the Okay to Reopen with COVID Precautions

A popular winter pastime in New York is cleared to slide into a new season in spite of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo October 18 announced ski resorts in the state are being allowed to reopen November 6 with certain precautions to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

Facilities will be able to open at half their indoor capacity. Other restrictions aimed to curb the spread of COVID-19 include mask-wearing except while eating, drinking or skiing, limits on the size of ski instruction session, gondolas and lifts will be restricted to members of the same party and shared or rented equipment will be disinfected between uses.

Cuomo says skiing close to home is a wise choice given the quarantine requirements for people traveling to New York from other ski destinations that are in high COVID-19 infection states.

The Democrat says there is some of the best skiing in the country in New York and fans of the slope can take advantage of world-class facilities without trading off a couple days on the powder followed by 14 days in quarantine when they get back home.

Ski destinations on the quarantine list include: Colorado, Montana, Utah, Alaska and Wyoming.
