New York Records Lower Than 1,000 Single-Day New COVID Cases
In a rare daily update, New York State on May 24 reported fewer than 1,000 new coronavirus infections (new positive tests: 929) and only 14 deaths as positivity numbers continue to fall.
Still, Broome County May 24 reported two more deaths, bringing the pandemic death toll to 345.
State and local officials continue to urge stragglers to get the COVID-19 vaccine as the numbers show a correlation between the increase in the number of people protected against the virus to the decline in the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
A vaccination clinic for the one-dose Johnson and Johnson shot is scheduled for Thursday at the SUNY Broome Ice Center. That vaccine is good for residents aged 18 and over. An appointment can be made at www.gobroomecounty.com.
Chenango County is having two clinics for the Pfizer vaccine for residents age 12 and over on June 2. One clinic will be held from 1:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Oxford Fire Station. The other clinic is at the former Norwich Label Shopper in the South Plaza from 7 to 7 p.m.
Cortland County is holding a Johnson and Johnson one-dose vaccination clinic at the Willet Fire Station on June 3.
Check the Chenango and Cortland County Health Departments’ facebook pages for information on scheduling an appointment.
