Reaction in New York to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Speech is going pretty much as expected along party lines.

22nd  District Congressman Anthony Brindisi, however, tweeted: “it’s time both sides drop the partisan politics and work to improve the lives of the American People.” The Utica Democrat praised the President for signing legislation he sponsored regarding Veterans’ services, Upstate jobs and eliminating the Health Insurance Tax.  Brindisi is seeking reelection this year.

Neither Senators Charles Schumer or Kirsten Gillbrand issued statements on their websites.

Republican Congressman Tom Reed repeated the President’s claims of huge economic gains, saying 347 thousand jobs in New York have been created under the Trump administration.

While some Democrats cheered House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripping up Trump's speech, likely in reaction to the President refusing the tradition of  shaking the Speaker's hand prior to the address, some party-members thought the move on camera over Trump's shoulder was 'a bit extreme.'
