Firefighters from around New York State are holding their own Winter Games.

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York kicks off the annual Firefighter Winter Games February 10 in Cortland.  Events include a race carrying rescue baskets or sleds, the hose relay, a tug-o-war and a scavenger hunt using global position satellite devices and cameras to simulate a search for a missing person.

More than 300 volunteer firefighters are expected, dressed in full turnout gear.  This year’s field is the largest number of competitors to date.

Competitors sign in at 7:30 Saturday morning for events at Greek Peak with Tubing Racing starting off the activities.  Events Saturday end at 4 p.m.

Sunday, February 11, activities start at 7:30 a.m. at SUNY Cortland’s Park Center Alumni Arena.  SUNY Cortland events include Broomball on the ice followed by an award ceremony.
