New York and Broome COVID-19 Numbers Continue Downward Crawl
Even as the first phase of economic reopening entered its sixth day, local and New York State coronavirus numbers continue to trend lower.
Broome County is reporting the number of active cases down by 17 on May 19 to 80. The county has had 424 total positive coronavirus cases and 30 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
New York State on May 19 reported 1,474 new cases, down 335 from the previous day. New York has recorded 352,845 total cases of COVID-19. Statewide there were 105 deaths on May 18, one of the lowest numbers reported since the start of the pandemic in March. 22,843 New Yorkers have died.
While the numbers show a promising downward crawl, officials continue to remind residents, especially with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, not to relax the actions that resulted in turning the tide in the pandemic in the first place.
Authorities urge everyone to limit the size of gatherings to no more than ten, remain six feet apart and wear facial coverings.
