A man who helped lead the effort for Broome County to have an elected county executive will soon be honored again with the dedication of a new sign on a downtown government office building.

An old sign designating the "Edwin L. Crawford County Office Building" has been replaced on the Hawley Street side of the structure.

Crawford was appointed in 1968 to serve as the first Broome County executive. He served in the post for eight years.

Crawford died in September 1993 at the age of 68.

Broome County officials are planning to hold a dedication ceremony to mark the installation of the new sign.

Crawford's relatives will be invited to the event, which is expected to be held in the next few weeks.
