New Hilton Hotel Brand Coming to Vestal
The newest Hilton hotel brand is expected its debut in Broome County this summer.
A former 79-room Comfort Suites hotel at 3401 Vestal Parkway East is being transformed into a Spark by Hilton location.
The new brand was launched about two years ago. It's described as a "premium economy" concept, just below the "midscale" Tru by Hilton brand.
A Spark by Hilton sign was erected on the building this week. The place operated as an independent hotel using the name "University Inn" for a short time. The property is located about a mile west of the Binghamton University campus.
The Broome County Health Department issued a closure order for the University Inn on April 23, 2024.
Some renovation efforts began in the building last summer but the Town of Vestal issued a "Stop Work Order" in August because no permits had been issued for work at the site.
RAJ Hospitality LLC of Connecticut acquired the property for $3 million in January 2023.
Jaykumar Shah, who is named as the owner on a town notice posted at the building, could not be reached for comment Tuesday on the plans to reopen the place under the Spark by Hilton brand.
Reservations for the Vestal hotel are being accepted for August 5 and beyond, according to the Spark by Hilton website.
The site of the hotel will be a short distance west of a Tru by Hilton location at 3512 Vestal Parkway East. That hotel opened in December 2019.
