Some of the space that had been occupied by an Ames Department store near Binghamton will be getting a new life.

Fun City Adventure Park is planning to open a new location in the Northgate Plaza on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango.

The New Jersey-based owners of the shopping complex hired Pritchard Development Corporation for a multi-phase renovation project of the plaza

Brett Pritchard said his crews have been working at the site of the future Fun City operation for several weeks.

An Ames department store had operated at the site until the company closed all of its stores in 2002.

Pritchard said Fun City Adventure Park will occupy 45,000 square feet at the plaza. He expects the site will be ready to turn over to the company in mid-August.

Fun City then will hire crews to convert the place into a trampoline park. The new business could be ready to open next summer.

According to Fun City's website, the facility will offer "the ultimate indoor fun" for families and kids.

The company says its parks offer "wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, ninja warrior courses, climbing walls, and more adrenaline-pumping attractions."

The Small Addictions RC store in the Northgate Plaza will be moving to a new location so additional space will be available for the Fun City operation.

Small Addictions owner Chris Conrad told WNBF News his business will relocate to the old Sunset Lanes bowling alley in Kirkwood. He said his store will continue to operate at the Northgate Plaza while the new site is being prepared.

The Small Addictions Kirkwood location is expected to open in early September.
