New Downtown Binghamton Parking Garage to Open Next Month
People should be able to park in the Water Street parking garage in downtown Binghamton in a few weeks.
Construction work is continuing on the $25 million facility next door to Boscov's department store.
The new garage will have about 500 parking spaces. It's located on the site of another city-owned parking facility that was shut down because of structural problems.
The old garage was demolished in 2022, after it had been in use for 52 years.
Mayor Jared Kraham said additional parking spaces on Water Street became available a few days ago when construction fencing was moved closer to the new structure.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said the precast concrete sections for the garage were installed quickly last spring.
In recent months, workers have been busy installing the structure's electrical, plumbing and other operating systems. Interior paving and striping work has been completed.
Kraham said he expects the first level of the garage could be ready for use by the week of Thanksgiving.
The mayor noted some work has been done to the façade near the Water Street entrance to the Boscov's men's department.
