Natural Gas Line Ruptured After Car Crash at Chenango Bridge Home
A driver was arrested following a crash that resulted in a broken natural gas line at a residence in the town of Chenango.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened shortly after midnight Sunday at a home on River Road in Chenango Bridge.
Investigators say a vehicle smashed into a parked vehicle and then struck the house. The natural gas line was severed when the vehicle came into contact with the building.
The Chenango Bridge Fire Department and a NYSEG crew were called to deal with the broken gas line.
Sheriff's deputies say the driver - 67-year-old Catherine McCarthy of Chenango Bridge - was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain lane. She was released on appearance tickets for Chenango town court.
McCarthy was the only occupant in the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
