The civil rights group is demanding an apology and other measures from the school district.

The four girls, who are black, claimed school officials strip searched them January 15.

The Binghamton City School District has issued statements saying the girls were medically evaluated when they exhibited uncharacteristic giddy behavior that caused concern about possible drug involvement.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund sent a letter to the school district February 8 saying the actions by the middle school principal and nurse violated the constitutional rights of the girls.

The school district says it has hired a law firm to conduct and independent investigation.

Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo has called on the state Education Department to look into the matter.

The School Administrators Association of New York State says it wants to the community to reserve judgement until investigations are complete.
