N.Y. Attorney General Questions Prevagen Claims
According to an Associated Press report, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and the Federal Trade Commission have filed a lawsuit against Quincy Bioscience, the maker of Prevagen, seeking a ban on claims about the supplement's effectiveness.
Prevagen ads claim it is "clinically shown" to support clearer thinking. The ads also claim to improve memory within 90 days.
In addition to the call for a ban on the ad claims, the lawsuit seeks refunds for consumers and civil penalties.
Schneiderman says Quincy's claims are based on a study and fails to show a statistically significant improvement in memory.
Quincy says the law suit amounts to government overreach.
