More Snow Expected for Twin Tiers and Central New York
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties until 5 a.m. March 15. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 5 a.m. March 15 for areas impacted by lake effect snow like Cortland, Tompkins and Onondaga Counties that include the cities of Ithaca, Cortland and Syracuse.
Forecasters say snow and blowing snow are expected. Total snow accumulations for the Twin Tiers are being put at 2 to 6 inches, with the greatest totals over the higher terrain. Localized amounts of as much as 6 to 10 inches are possible, mostly over far northern portions of Tioga and Delaware Counties.
For the Warning area, snowfall totals of up to a foot have been projected. Again, the highest amounts are anticipated at higher elevations.
Motorists are being told to plan on slippery road conditions. In addition, areas of poor visibility are likely. The heaviest snow is expected in the late afternoon. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.
