The 2014 Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic began with the Charlie Howland Memorial Luncheon at the Double Tree Hotel in Binghamton December 27.

The 23rd anniversary edition of the event is held to promote an anti-substance abuse and drunk-driving message to student athletes.

At 5:30 p.m. the 27th, the Aldo Rossi Jr. Memorial Police basketball game was held at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  The game is played in honor of Port Dickinson Police Officer Aldo Rossi Jr. who was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2008.

Following the Aldo Rossi game, the three-point shooting and slam dunk competition was held. Actual tournament play gets underway December 28.  The first game begins at 11:15 a.m. and will pit Norwich against Owego Free Academy.  At 1 p.m. Bishop Loughlin meets Landstown followed by a 2:45 game featuring Roman Catholic from Philadelphia against Westhill High, the defending  New York Class B State and Federation champion.

Tournament competition continues through December 30 with all games at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  A complete and updated game schedule is posted at www.bcstopdwi.com.
