New York Mets ace Max Scherzer will be joining the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Tuesday night for a rehab start after a stint on the injured list.

Scherzer has missed over a month of the regular season with a left oblique strain, and per a report from Bill Ladson of, is expected to throw about 60 to 70 pitches for the Rumble Ponies on Tuesday night.

The future hall of famer has made eight starts in his first season with the Mets in 2022, posting a 2.54 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 49.2 innings of work. And despite being without Jacob deGrom for the entire season and Max Scherzer for over a month, the Mets have cruised to a 44-24 record, the best record in the National League and second only to the New York Yankees. They currently hold a 5.5 game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.

Chris Bassitt, Taijuan Walker and Carlos Carrasco have negated the impact of losing both deGrom and Scherzer. The three have combined to make 28 starts for the Mets with a record of 18-9.

Former Rumble Ponies Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo have also provided the Mets with exceptional offense this season in support of their strong pitching staff.

The 37 year old, three-time Cy Young winner signed a record three-year $130 million contract with the Mets this offseason.

Scherzer will pair up with Major League battery mate James McCann on Tuesday, also making rehab appearances on his way back from the injured list. It's possible Scherzer will only need to make one rehab start before heading back up to the big league club.
