Chenango County Sheriff’s officials say while they were attempting to stop a Chevy Malibu in the Village of Oxford for a narcotics investigation at 10:45 p.m. March 7, they ended up pursuing 24 year old Samuel Ackermann of Norwich for about eight miles.

The chase ended on Moon Hill Road in the Town of Plymouth when Ackermann crashed into a tree.  Ackerman, 18 year old Johnathon Gemberling of Plymouth and a 17 year old girl ran off.

Officers looked for the suspects for 2 and a half hours before calling off the search and then, acting on a tip from a resident approached by people looking for help close to four hours later, took Ackerman and the girl into custody.

Authorities say they found a pound and a half of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and a loaded long gun in the suspects’ vehicle.

Ackerman and the girl were taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.

Officials say they continue to investigate and expect more arrests.

Ackerman, who is a New York State Parolee is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing police and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

The girl is charged with felony drug possession and criminal possession of marijuana.
