Binghamton police are trying to find a suspect in connection with a shooting at a downtown nightclub.

Authorities said a man sustained a gunshot wound to his chest after a disturbance inside The Cave at Centre Plaza.

Police were called to the establishment at Henry and Chenango Streets shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to city detectives, a 28-year-old man was taken to a hospital for treatment. The man, whose name and hometown were not be released, was reported in stable condition Monday afternoon.

Police officers and investigators questioned several people who were inside the club when the shooting occurred.

In a news release, police said no other injuries had been reported in connection with the disturbance. They were unable to provide a description of the shooter.

People with information about the incident may contact the Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080.

In September 2022, the city of Binghamton notified the owners of The Cave and Centre Plaza that the place had become "the source of criminal activity and neighborhood disturbances."

The letter indicated the city was prepared to use the Lockdown Law to "abate the nuisance by closing the premises for up to one year." The notice cited incidents of assault, fight and disorderly conduct at the site.

The owners of The Cave could not be reached for comment on Monday. A note on the club's Facebook page dated February 2023 indicated the business was under "New Management."
