Man Seriously Hurt in Hit-and-Run Near Binghamton Boscov’s Store
Witnesses said a pedestrian appeared to have sustained serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in downtown Binghamton.
The man reportedly was hit as he crossed Water Street at the Court Street intersection near the main entrance to Boscov's department store. The incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.
People near the scene told WNBF News the pedestrian appeared to be in the crosswalk when he was struck by a tan Ford Escape sport utility vehicle.
A woman who was outside Boscov's at the time said she heard a loud noise when the SUV hit the man.
Two men who also were on Water Street said the vehicle had been eastbound on Court Street and was turning left when it struck the pedestrian.
One of the witnesses said the SUV "hit him hard." He said the driver stopped "for about two seconds" and then "floored it," racing away from the scene traveling north on Water Street.
The witnesses said the man who was struck appeared to be conscious but unresponsive as he was being placed into an ambulance.
