Man Run Over by Bulldozer at Binghamton Road Project Recuperating
A construction worker is continuing to recover from the injuries he sustained when a bulldozer back over him at a street reconstruction project in Binghamton.
Keith Totten of Port Crane received leg, hip and pelvis injuries in the incident on April 7 at the job site on Clinton Street in the city's First Ward.
Totten first was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and later was transferred to a Syracuse hospital. He's now recuperating at home after being hospitalized for several weeks.
Family members gathered with friends and area residents for a fundraiser at Touch of Texas in the town of Chenango on Sunday.
Totten expressed his gratitude for the support he and his family have received. He said the last five months have "been - obviously - tough." He said he spent 70 days in the hospital and endured multiple surgeries.
Totten said "I'm thankful to be here." He said the experience has been "a little overwhelming... It makes you realize... people still do care."
The future for Totten is uncertain. For now, he is using a wheelchair and preparing for at least two more surgical procedures.
Despite what he's been through and the challenges he faces, he said: "All in all, again, I'm just lucky to be here. Thank the Lord and my family for everything that they've done for me."
