The man who was operating the Hyundai Elantra was trapped in the car, which wound up on its roof on Court Street, just east of Oliver Street. The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters worked for a few minutes to extricate the driver. Witnesses said he was able to walk and talk after he was removed from the wrecked vehicle.

A man who had been driving a short distance behind the car said the vehicle appeared to be out of control for about two blocks before it veered off the north side of Court Street.

The westbound car smashed a street sign and knocked down a light pole before becoming airborne and overturning in the street.

The witness said the car was traveling at a relatively low speed. He estimated it may have been going about 20 to 25 miles per hour prior to the crash.

Court Street was closed to westbound traffic for about thirty minutes after the crash.
