Binghamton police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81.

Authorities say the incident happened around 5:10 p.m. Thursday in the Hospital Hill section of the highway, a short distance from the Kirkwood town line.

Witnesses reported seeing the man get out of a car and apparently jump in front of the northbound truck.

City police say the man was a Pennsylvania resident. His name and hometown were not released.

Detectives were awaiting the results of an autopsy. An investigator said there was nothing to indicate the death was a result of any criminal activity.

People with information about the incident may contact the Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080.
