Man Charged In Binghamton Library Stabbing
A New York City man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing in the parking lot of the Broome County Public Library.
Binghamton police say 51-year-old Wilfredo Hernandez of the Bronx has been charged with attempted murder and weapon possession.
Investigators believe Hernandez stabbed 30-year-old Kendu Johnson of Binghamton late Friday afternoon.
The attack occurred outside the library at 185 Court Street.
Police say Johnson was stabbed in the chest. He was reported to be in critical condition at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
Detectives say the incident occurred as the result of a dispute over money.
Hernandez was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and ordered held at Broome County Jail without bail.
The arrest came after police released surveillance video from the library lobby. Two other men seen in the recording are described as "witnesses" and have not been charged in the case.
