Two people have been charged after a Chenango County man reported a burglary in progress.

Authorities say two people ran out a rear door of a building on Morgan Hill Road in the town of Afton around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Sheriff's deputies searched the area after the property owner called 911. The suspects weren't immediately found.

Hours later, a canine unit tracked down 37-year-old Jessica Palmatier of Bainbridge in a wooded area. Investigators say she was found to be in possession of drugs.

A state trooper later spotted a second suspect on Route 7 in the town of Afton. 39-year-old Jeb Davis of Sidney was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Palmatier and Davis were charged with third-degree burglary. Palmatier also was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Both were arraigned and sent to Chenango County Jail.
