The Maine-Endwell Spartans have won their 4th consecutive state football championship as the defeated the Schalmont Sabers 27-19 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse this afternoon.  M-E was up 21-0 at the end of the first half.  Schalmont battled back late in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the Spartans lead.

M-E has won the last three Class B titles and before that captured the state Class A crown. Winning four consecutive state championships has not been done in New York state since the playoff and championship tournament began in 1993.

Senior Adam Gallagher was named the game's Most Valuable Player.  He accounted for three of the four Spartans' touchdowns.  Gallagher scored on an interception, a fumble recovery and a rushing touchdown.

Maine-Endwell has now won 51 consecutive games.  The Spartans are the second Section 4 team to capture a state championship this weekend.  Chenango Forks defeated Hoosick Falls 20-14 yesterday to win the Class C title.
