Long Island Man Dies in Otsego County on the First Day of Deer Season

New York State police say a 52-year-old Long Island man is dead after being shot in the chest while hunting in Otsego County.

Troopers say Charles Bruce of Franklin Square was hunting Saturday morning in the town of Westford, southeast of Cooperstown, when he was shot shortly before 10:30. He died at the scene.

State police say no other details were being released at this time as the investigation continues.

Assisting in the investigation are The Otsego County District Attorney's Office and state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Deer hunting season started in New York's southern Zone Saturday.
