A Lockwood man is charged with manslaughter after his hunting partner was fatally shot on private property in the Town of Barton in Tioga County December 9.

The New York State Environmental Conservation Police arrested 53-year-old Dean Brockoff and charged him in connection with the death of a 73-year-old Lockwood man who was shot off Miller Hollow Road at around 7 a.m. December 9.

The D-E-C is investigating the case along with the New York State Police and Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the men had permission to be hunting on the land but few other details are being released, including the name of the deceased hunter, who was pronounced dead after being transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre

Brockoff was sent to the Tioga County Jail on $20,000 bail.

The DEC reminds hunters to always assume a gun is loaded, carry firearms in a safe manner, controlling the muzzle and pointing the gun in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, do not hunt in the dark, be sure of your target and and wear blaze orange or pink.
